07/06/09 - EGB Seniors shine for victorious Warwickshire! - PNH
All Britain Inter County Championship ¼ Final
Warwickshire 1:12
London 1:10
Erin Go Bragh provided the backbone to Warwickshire’s impressive victory over London in the ¼ final of the British championship.
Go Bragh’s were represented by five players in the starting 15: More than any other club
GK. Alan Lynham
CB. Tim Foley
FB. Martyn Fleming
CB. Neill Harney
RWB: JP Foley
RWF: Michael Harrigan
Alan Lynham fully justified his selection in goal with a string of excellent goal bound saves.
Providing 4 of the six backs, the defence were dogged in the tackle and clever in possession. Fleming looks like his played at full back for years and the Foley’s were rock solid down the right hand side.
Mick Harrigan was our only representative in the forward line. Tightly marked in the first half Harrigan was the man of moment scoring the crucial winning goal deep in the second half.
Fair play lads – good luck against Scotland in the semi final.
Warwickshire Senior Hurling Team News:
In the hurling EGB were represented by the cat-like Dickie O’Brien.
Dickie tended goal as Warwickshire narrowly lost by three points to Longford.
Next for the Hurlers is a trip to Tyrone, where EGB stalwart Kieran Bombchest will hope to be fit to play along Dickie for the county.

03/06/09 - Mick Surge Cup - PNH
Erin Go Bragh 3:18
John Mitchells 0:9
Erin Go Bragh recorded a massive 18 point victory over a full strength John Mitchells, in the Mick Surge Cup.
In their first outing since defeat to Four Master, EGB turned in their best performance of the season.
In a masterful tactical switch Fleming reverted to full back and with Boxwell out injured Kevin McHugh started at No.6. Fleming composure from the back line encouraged the whole team to play an excellent passing game.
Mitchells did however have the best of the early exchanges and raced into a three point lead after five minutes. This deficient could have been doubled if not for a great save from the evergreen Lynham.
Mulcahy and JP Foley soon took full control around the midfield and basically ran the show. James Harrigan also had a lot of success around the 45, winning the majority of the breaking balls
Macca and Mungan punished JM’s with deadly score taking. JP Foley finished off a sweeping move, started deep in the defence, to score the game’s first goal.
At half time the scores were 1-10 to 0-6.
EGB proved equally impressive in the second half. No signs of showboating just relentless score taking. Totting up another 2-8 to JM’s 3 points in the second half.
18 points proved to be the winning margin. After defeat to Four Masters this victory is a timely reminder to those in the county who have doubted the EGB seniors.
Kieran Boxwell. Paul Bradley. John Coyne. Mick Harrigan. Pugsey. Liam Fitz have got a job to get back in the team.
I love beating Mitchells

Erin Go Bragh 3-09 Vs Roger Casements 2-05
Erin Go Bragh started their Hurling season with an impressive victory over Roger Casements. Understandably the opening minutes were a little crappy with both sets of players struggling to retain possession. Casements were first to trouble the scores with a fine point taken from the 45 meter line.
Go Bragh’s response was immediate. Fine work from wing back Foley sent the sliothar into the hands of full forward Boxwell who took his point from close in. Buoyed by Boxwell’s skills Go Bragh upped the pressure on Casements and continually out fought the Coventry men. James McVeigh’s team were rewarded during this period with a bullet shot from corner forward Liam Fitzpatrick which flew past the helpless Pat Hoey into the roof of the net.
The Erdington Boys could sense a real weakness in the Casements full back line and bombarded them with long deep balls, this proved decisive as Liam Boxwell again showed brilliant stick skills to score the second goal of the half. Centre half forward Paul McGrory then got in the act with a fine point from close in. Casements keep in touch with four well taken frees.
Midfielder Fleming was in fine form and slotted over twice before the break. Corner Forward Ben Foley showed predatory instincts to score Go Bragh’s third goal after a dreadful mistake by keeper Hoey.
Casements were offered a lifeline with a soft goal conceded by the usually impeccable O’Brien. At turn Go Bragh’s had secured a well deserved seven point advantage.
The second half saw the introduction of the apologetic Joe McDermott and the ‘F*%k off I’ve never missed a game’ Mick Harrigan. Casements were a different proposition in the 2nd half and reduced their deficient to two points. EGB seemed to abandon their long ball game so effective in the 1st half with silly short passes. Thankfully for Go Bragh’s two points from wingback Franklum , one from Harrigan and a third from Fleming secured a seven point victory. Man of the Match: Liam Boxwell
